I've decided to delay my procedure until my doctor upgrades his existing VISX Star S2 to the S3 (should happen within the next month or two). I don't want to be his first surgery after the upgrade. My question is: Approximately how many procedures does it take for a doctor to become reacquainted with the laser and proficient in its use after this upgrade? Thanks.

Rick,

I'd bet that there is there is virtually no learning curve between the VISX S2 and S3. The laser is essentially the same with the exception of some minor hardware and software changes and the addition of a tracker. The patient results are likely to be very similar between the two systems, perhaps slightly better with the S3 (due to the tracker).

If your physician is comfortable with the S2, then he'll be just as comfortable with the S3. It's like getting a 2000 Honda Accord versus a 2001 Honda Accord...not a big change, just minor improvements.

Good luck,
