The B&L technolas 217, VISX S3, and LADARVision lasers are all well regarded and give excellent results. Different MD's have different opinions based on their personal experience with the laser that they use most commonly.
MY opinion: the LADARVision laser has advantages over the other two because: 1) it has the smallest laser spot size which gives a smoother ablation profile to the cornea, 2) it has the fastest tracking system (the B&L does not have an FDA approved tracker), 3) ability to vary the treatment zone up to 8-10 mm for individuals with large pupils to prevent halo.
For most people, however, the surgeon's care, planning, experience and attention to detail is the most important variable in your outcome from LASIK. Still, the laser is important. I have my bias because I use the LADARVision system. Other MD's will have differing and justified opinions. In your favor, all 3 lasers are excellent.

Joel FDA data shows that the B&l with a 2mm beam and no eye tracker still produces 17% higher number of people acheiving 20/20 vision than the Autonomous laser. Good Luck
