I don't have any specific problem that needs to be overcome with a specific laser, i.e. my pupils are small (4.5) mid-range myopia (-4.5/-4.75) and sufficient corneal tissue (560). I have already chosen a doctor and have the choice between the VISX Star 2, or upgrading to the Bausch & Lomb 217 for an additional $700. I would gladly upgrade if there were a reduced chance of problems (i.e. halos, starbursts, night-vision problems, etc.) but I have seen postings saying the VISX provides a smoother transition than the B & L. Any objective opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tim,

I have no experience with the VISX and Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217 lasers. Both are excellent. Sounds like you are a good candidate regardless of the laser used.

In terms of smoothness of the laser ablation, I believe that small spot scanning lasers create smoother ablations than broad beam lasers in general. The Bausch and Lomb laser is a small spot scanning laser as is the LADARVision and Lasersight laser.

Good luck,
