Prelasik my eyes were -9.50 and -9.75. I am having all of the normal halos, dry eyes and starburst at night. I understand why I have these, but I do not understand haziness. I feel as if I am looking through cellaphane all day and it does not seem to be decreasing. I thought the dry eyes were the culprit, but after I put in the natural tears drops it continues. My vision is 20/20 left and -.75 right with astigmatism. I would appreciate any response.

it's difficult to surmise much withou examining your eyes. ask your doctor if there is any debris or scarring in the flap area. how flat is the cornea now? sometimes if the cornea is too flat after surgery the patient will experience a decrease in the quality of vision despite the excellent results.
it may just be that this a trade off for the improvement of your uncorrected vision.

Your description of your condition sounds a lot like what my friend Bob is going through right now. He's 16 days post surgery, and still not seeing well (very blurry vision, can't read, 20/50, with astigmatism, and problems beyond that). He especially has a lot of problems with the haloes at night. Yesterday I took him to the doctor, who used the cellophane analogy to describe how Bob sees all day long, and Bob said this was accurate.

The doctor says he has Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy -- where the outer layer of his eye is not attaching properly to the cornea. We're really at a loss trying to get this situation taken care of. Yesterday, his doctor recommended that he start taking a certain kind of drop, to relieve corneal edema and hopefully help the EBMD resolve itself. The drops make his eyes very dry and uncomfortable. Don't know if it will help. He goes back to the doctor on Monday afternoon.

Dear Bob,
Has the EBMD gone away with use of the eye drops?
Just curious. It is now 11 weeks post for me and I've noticed that the haze (or cellaphane vision ) is slowly and I mean slowly going away. I still have it overall and I'm hoping that it will continue to disappear. My doctor doesn't seem to think it's anything to worry about and says that it's all associated with the halos and starburstand the significant amount of lasering due to my higer degree of myopia. I've read that it may take up to 6 months for total healing to take place so I'm hoping that this is the case for me and that this will not be a permanent thing. I have my 3 month checkup mid May so I'll be interested in what Dr. has to report.

Hi Mary,
I had a checkup yesterday, 8 weeks post op, and the EBMD has resolved itself without the drops. Several days ago things started to clear up in the afternoon and I could focus on small print for short periods of time. My vision clears and then becomes hazy again. My best vision hasn't improved, but the clear periods last longer. I can finally drive during the day, although this causes a considerable amount of eyestrain.

Dear Bob,
Hi, just had my 3 month check-up with my Dr. Of course after learning all of the Lasik lingo from reading this website, I had a list a mile long of possible reasons for the haze that I had to question him about. I think he was quite surprised. Was funny. Anyway, Dr. can not see anything under or on my flap that could be causing the haze. The flaps look great. I did mention that it seems to be a reduction in contrast sensitivity , where the colors are muted, nothing seems as bright as pre-lasik. Still don't know if this is going to be a permanent thing. He did say
that my right eye is still fluctuating now even at 13 weeks post as he got two very different refractions each within an hour of eachother. Weird huh? The only difference between was that I
was dilated. He also prescribed the pilocarpine drops for the night vision problems. I haven't
tried them yet and am a little cautious as I know that they do cause quite a few side effects. We'll see what Dr. has to say in a week. I'm so glad that your EBMD has resolved itself.
