I had lasik on 8/4/00 and went from a -9.0 and -8.5 to (at this point) +1.75 and +1.25. I hear high myopes take longer to regress, but what are the chances - (good, fair, poor) that there will be significant regression after 3 months?
Also, I am 47 and have presbyopia, worsened, of course by the over-correction. Since I will need reading glasses anyway, would you recommend enhancement if I don't regress? I don't see anything clearly within about a 5 foot radius which is frustrating. I don't want to live with a situation which can be corrected, yet I don't want to make a bad situation worse, either! Thank you
Regression can occur late (after 3 months) but the odds aren't that high. A very important question is: if your doctor prescribed glasses - would you currently see 20/20 or better. The reason I ask is because one cause of over-correction is the presence of striae. Striae (wrinkles in the flap) can affect vision, and if they do affect vision, generally need to be removed.
I hope this helps

Dr. Trattler,
I'm not sure I understand your question. I can see 20/20 with glasses for distance, but even with that corrected, I need stronger glasses for reading. Does this mean I probably don't have striae? And if I don't, would you recommend I try for enhancement? I expected to need reading glasses, but my near vision (within 5 feet) also isn't very good. Thank you for the helpful answer about regression.
