Hello! I visitied LasikPLus here in Orlando last week and the Doctor explained that I was a perfect candidate and that I didn't need Custom Wavefront. At Lasik Plus there are three Laser Technologies that are being used. Broad Beam, Flying Spot and Wavefront Guided. The Doctor told me that I would just need Fly Spot instead of Wavefront.

These are the following information regarding my eyes;

-4.00, -4.50, 8mm pupil, 547 & 552 Corneal thickness

Would picking Wavefront Guided help in possibly lowing the odds of complications or is it definitely overkill? Any Advantage in getting Wavefront instead of Fly Spot? Pricing is the same between the Flying Spot with Lifetime Enhancements because of a Special they are running.

Any recommendations and comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

I beleive most studies have found that there are visual advantages to wavefront over standard treatments. I know for sure this is the case for the VISX laser. The flying spot laser is the Autonomous, and I do believe that the same holds true.
Of course - your surgeon may have a different experience with wavefront. Actually - at LASIK plus, you may not have met the actual surgeon. So you should perhaps make an appointment to meet with the surgeon and discuss these issues in depth.

Best of luck

also discuss your big pupils with your surgeon. Theres concern about the loss of night vision with large pupils. Although I dont know why, there may be reasons why your not a candidate for wavefront. Discuss exactly why. By the way, may I ask why you want lasik and whats your expectations?

The doctor that met with me, which isn't going to be the surgeon, told me that with my 8mm pupil, Flying Spot would be good enough because something about the treatment covering a maximum of 9mm.

I understood that a larger pupil would possibly have an issue if let's say the technology that will be used had a maximum treatment of 7mm.

I think I need to clarify this with the doctor I talked to. I want to have Lasik done so I don't have to be dependent on glasses. My expectations is to have good vision without glasses and to hopefully avoid any complications espeically Halos and glare at night.

How well do you see without glasses, with? Are you fully informed of all the risks? Also will you be happy with a reduced dependancy on glasses?

Without my Glasses I can only see blurs and it gets clearer when an object is only about a foot away from me.

Will I be happy when I become less deoendent on glass? Of course I will. Right now I am also content and happy with Glasses its just that for years now I've always wanted to know how it feels like to wake up to a clear day. Not having to wear contacts when playing basketball or going to a party. :)

I know about the risks that's why after all these years I have been waiting for the technology to improve. I think everything has risks. Just driving in my car everyday involves risk but for some reason after reading posts in this forum I'm suddenly more weary of the risks in LASIK then just driving home.

well if your content with glasses and happy the way you see with them, may be safer to stick with them. You could fall asleep with glasses on and wake up with clear vision ;) Some people do that with contacts but its bad practice, although the focus day and night is less risky for sleeping in, however its generally not reccomended. Theres orthoK which is contacts worn while your sleeping then you remove em and see well uncorrected all day. Its not entirely without risks but the fact they arent permaent is a strong point in case it doesnt work out for you in any way.

If you really hate glasses you could become a full time contact lense wearer if you dont mind putting up with irritation and dryness contacts give. If you cant tolerate contacts(I cant) and you really hate glasses then its up to you if lasik is worth the risks. I would see several surgeons and get their opinions and also ask which laser is the best. Surface ablation may be a better way to go, Trattler has great results with it. Theres also intacs which will cut your myopia down by 3 diopters and I like the advantages of intacs over lasik, especially the fact they can be removed. Hope all this helps. I dont want to give false info in saying you should get lasik, only you and your doctor can decide if its right for you and "worth it"
