I am a candidate for either surgery. I am a very active person and I am worried about the flap with LASIK. I was told if I play contact sports, there was a chance that the flap could get damaged if I was hit in the eye. How common is this? And is it possible to get repaired if it happens? I think I am leaning more toward PRK because of this issue.

The good news is that the risk of flap dislocations after LASIK is very low. BUT...it can occasionally happen. It can happen with contact sports, with blunt trauma (like a finger poke) and even with airbag injuries. But again the odds of a traumatic flap dislocation is extremely low.
Surface ablation has some other advantages besides avoiding the uncommon risk of traumatic flap dislocations. The quality of vision in a few studies appears to be slightly better with wavefront guided surface ablation as compared to wavefront guided LASIK. As well, there is a lower risk of dry eyes with surface ablation as comapared to LASIK.
I hope this helps
Best regards
