I tried a +1.250 undercorrection for near vision with a contact lens and was really pleased with the results. I am about to undergo Lasik but the pre-op doctor recommends +1.5 I tried a contact lens with the lower power but am ambiquous about the results I understand that Presbyopia will worsen over the years but the +1.25 appears to be okay right now. I am 46 years old and want to have the best setup possible. The doctors are willing to do whatever I want so I would like other opinions...

A few comments.

First - your doctor is correct that presbyopia worsens over the years. At age 45, most patients favor a +1.50 difference between the eyes for monovision. By age 50, most patients are up to 1.75 or even 2.0.

The problem with LASIK is that it can get close, but there are no guarantees of getting exactly 1.25 or 1.50 difference. There is a chance you can be a little over or a little under. SO many doctors prefer 1.50 or 1.75 as a starting point - as it is easier to add more treatment, then to have to go back the other way (which occurs if the monovision eye is not strong enough for near, requiring hyperopic treatment).

I hope this helps answer your question. Please discuss this information with your own doctor.

Best of luck
