Someone in my office had LASIK 7 months ago and was approx.-8 in both eyes. Post LASIK she is 20/25 and 20/40. She is 38 and says her reading is ok but not the same as pre LASIK. Her concern is that if she starts using reading glasses (even the +1.0) that she may become too dependent and cause her reading vision to deteriorate. So, she is not using them.
How much validity is there to this? She even thinks that if she did not wear glasses at age 8 that her myopia would not have gotten worse. Comments?

western medicine holds that glasses are only lenses that focus light and in no way change the refractive correction of the eye. she will not increase her need for reading glasses by using them. unfortunately she is just "maturing"!

Tell your friend this:
"If she hadn't started wearing shoes at age 3, maybe her feet would still be the same size."
We all grow. Our eyes grow too. She will not become dependent on readers. However, she will like the sharp vision she gets, and of course she'll want to wear them more.
But if she doesn't want to wear them, don't worry about it. Her eyes will change gradually to worse near vision like everybody else and eventually she'll get to the point when she'll have to wear them.
