""Enhancement" for Night Vision Problems?"

I had LASIK three weeks ago. It was done at a TLC center which uses (I believe) a VISX laser with a 6mm correction zone. Prior to the surgery my pupil size was measured twice as 6mm. However, my own measurements looking into a mirror in a dim room indicate a diameter of easily 8mm.

My main problem now is that while I have excellent vision in bright sunlight, my vision degrades rapidly as the light level diminishes. Under typical indoor lighting things are slightly blurry, and my night vision is terrible. Halos and starbursts aren't too bad, but my level of correction at night is obviously significantly lower than in sunlight. I'm convinced that this is due to more light coming in through my uncorrected areas as my pupil expands.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to treat this with glasses, but I'm wondering about the correctability of this with a second procedure. My surgeon indicates that a custom LASIK prodcedure may help, but this would presumably also be done with the VISX laser, so if my problem is as I've described would this really help? Would I be better off finding a surgeon who uses a laser like the Chiron 217, which can blend to 9.6mm?

I'm also concerned about corneal thickness after reading through the postings here. My corneal thickness was measured as 518/532 pre-op, and I was corrected from -5.00/-5.75 to 20/25 in both eyes. Assuming that my vision doesn't change, there would be minimal correction in the central zone, with most material being removed from the blending area. Would I have enough residual thickness for enhancement?

Has anyone else experienced similar problems? How did you deal with them? Did they improve on their own?

I had LASIK done over 1 year now at LASIK and I had and still have the same problem. My night, dusk and dawn vision is so bad that I have had 3 different glasses prescriptions done. the latest one contains that new no glare coating that has helped some. but I am still very, very disappointed. I have asked about having an enhancement but have been told that it could not be corrected. Let me know how yours goes.

It is virtually impossible to measure your own pupil size in the mirror. You would need to accommodate your eyes - which would cause the pupil size to get smaller. It is just not possible.
The VISX laser Customvue does a very nice job for helping patients with large pupils reduce their risk of night time vision problems.

But - the main thing at this point is to remember you are only a few weeks out from surgery - and your eye will typically continue to heal and improve with time.

Keep us posted.

Could you use +3.5 or the strongest reading glasses you have to measure your pupils in the mirror? Youd probably not be accomodating any with the reading glasses plus the magnification would make measuring easier(do compenstate for magnification or measure by % of iris left) My pupils are about 8.5mm by my measure but they take nearly all of my iris!
