Six years ago (1993 and again in 1994) I had RK surgery (interrupted because of a pregnancy), which improved my sight greatly, but I still wear glasses/contacts. My eyes are now 1.5 (2 surgeries) and 3.5 (3 surgeries). I knew going into the surgery that I probably wouldn't get complete correction since my eyes were pretty bad (Dr. said I wouldn't see a cow in front of me! Never saw the big E on the chart).

Anyway, I am considering Lasik to try and get the correction better and am left with a few questions. Are there any unique risks because of my previous surgery? Should the eye that is at 1.5 be left alone for close reading? Also, I am expecting again and am wondering how long I should wait after the baby is born to have the surgery.

LASIK can be done after RK - you of course will want an experienced surgeon who can examine your eyes and determine whether LASIK would work for you. The standard risks with LASIK apply, plus there are additional risks after RK which relate to the fact that you have vertical incisions in your cornea. Since there is such a variablity as far as extrra risks after LASIK, I can only say that you need a complete exam with an experienced surgeon.
As far as not operating on your -1.50 eye, I think that is something to be considered. You can determine whether you will be happy by wearing a contact lens in the other eye. If you are comfortable with your vision with a contact in the worse eye, then you can talk with your doctor about correcting only one eye

I hope this info helps you when you see your doctor
