I had RK surgery in 1992 for nearsightedness and an astigmatism and was pleased with the results. I now have problems reading. Could laser surgery correct this?

Laser vision correction surgery has been demonstrated to be safe on patients who have ahd RK. However, laser vision correction is for correcting distance vision. If you have excellent distance vision, and are now having difficulty reading, then you will not benefit from laser. This is because after the age of 40, a condition called Presbyopia develops. Presbyopia refers to the loss of being able to focus at near.
I hope this explains presbyopia. If you do not have presbyopia, but instead have had a gradual hyperopic shift so that you now have dificulty with distance and near, please let me know
I have personally performed LASIK on many patients who have had RK in the past. I find it very safe and predictable. If you are happy with your disance vision but need to read, one option is to have monovision. Have one eye corrected to be able to read with it. This works very well for most patients. They really appreciate being able to read without glasses again.
