Dear docs

About six years ago I had RK surgery in both eyes. Prior to RK my myopia was -925 both eyes, after rk it was -250 left (with some astigmitisim induced)and -450 right. My best corrected vision (BCV) fell to aprox 20/30 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right. I have been told that my RK incisions have healed. Also, my vision fluctuations between morning and night have abated considerably i.e. almost completely gone.

In the past year, several surgeons have told me that I was a reasonable candidate for lasik to eliminate my remaining myopia.

Recently, two surgeons have told me to wait for the next generation of laser (topolink and/or custom ablation) for that technology would be my very best chance of reversing my loss in BCV.

My question to you: is this good advice????

thanks much
jerome

LASIK is effective for patients who have had previous RK - but in general LASIK can decrease the amount of myopia or hyperopia. However, LASIK with the curent technology can not help patients who have irregual astigmatism (which some patients can have after RK). I do not know if this is the reason that your doctors are recommending that you wait. I am sure that if you go to 10 LASIK surgeons, a few will consider surgery. But the real question is whether it is better to wait - and the fact that your doctors who have examined your eyes feel that the current technology is not the answer - should make you understand that there may be benfit to your final vision if you wait for newer technology.

I hope this helps

Best of luck
