The first Dr. I've seen for possible refractive surgery recommended RK rather than Lasik. He said with my Rx it would be very successful and cheaper than Lasik. Cost is not a factor with me, but the best outcome with the fewest complications is. What are your thoughts? My Rx is:
OD: +.50 -1.5 x10
OS: +1.50 -2.00 x 140
Thanks, Doogie

I am not a fan at all of RK. My first question is - how well do you see without glasses? From your prescription, it looks like the right eye is the one that you would see worse with. I have found that PRK or LASIK in just one eye can often be all that is needed in patients with mild prescriptions.
I would be more than happy to talk with you. You can either contact me at my office via telephone, or send me an email. My office is about 45 minutes South of Pembroke Pines.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the information, I may be in touch with you. BTW, it was Dr. Stanley Rosenberg, in your office building, who recommended the RK. He seems very knowledgible, but I'm hesitant to go with RK. I'm in the process of seeking many different opinions.
Thanks, Doogie

RK will not work for monovision for you, so this make no sense what so ever. You are asking about making your reading eye slightly more near-sighted, which RK can not do.
Please feel free to call me in my office, and I will be happy to go over all of these issues with you.
Thank you

I may have given the wrong impression due to a misunderstanding on my part. Dr. Rosenberg wants to correct me with AK. He said I have the correct ratio of astigmatism to myopia. I've received confirmation from other Drs. I used RK as a generic term to distinguish incisional surgery from LASIK. I used the wrong term on this board and hope I wasn't misleading. I intend to have the surgery with Dr. Rosenberg and have utmost confidence in him.

I am a little confused - how would AK leave you with monovision. I would need to know your actual prescriptions set for distance to comment whether AK would be helpful.
I am sure Dr. Rosenberg is very knowledgeable about AK, which is a procedure I rarely perform. He is also a very nice person, so please send my regards

In seeking as muc h information as possible, I also asked questions on the monovision board. I have settled on AK to correct my astigmatism and slight myopia and will be content with reading glasses as needed. Thanks for you input and concern.
