3 years ago I had RK/AK done. The results were almost perfect. However, my last follow-up showed that my left eye had developed an astigmatism. What could be the cause of this and why didn't it show up for 3 years? My Doctor now says I'm a good candidate for Lasik. What guarantees will I have that the astigmatism won't come back?

There are no guarantees that the astigmatism will not come back. We do not perform RK any more because it weakens the cornea and people can have slight drifting in their vision over time. LASIK appears much more stable and is easy to touch up.
LASIK can be performed after RK, but remember it is still possible for things to shift after, because the cornea has multiple incisions from the RK and AK.
You must weigh the risks versus the benefits of LASIK in your situation - and as well it depends how well you are functioning now - if your vision is only slightly blurry, but you can do everything you want without glasses, you may want to wait and see what happens with your eyes. This is a decision you must make.

Best of luck
