During my pre-op exam for LASIK the physician detected a small atrophic hole on the edge of my left (OS) eye. He said it should not effect the surgery, (scheduled for 21 NOV 99). Is that correct? Are there any treatment options to have it fixed, and or is it required prior to LASIK? Thanks for your help.

Ask your ophthalmologist whether a retinal surgeon should examine your eyes. LASIK does not increase the risk of retinal holes or retinal detachments. However, being near-sighted increases one's risk for developing retinal detachments. It therefore may be prudent to see a retinal specialist to determine whether the retinal hole needs treatment.
Best of luck

Thanks for the reply Dr. Trattler, On Monday 18 OCT 99 I am going to see a Retinal Specialist. I was wondering what are the possible treatments for Atrophic hole(s)? And will the treatment be sufficient for me to go ahead with the surgery? Thanks again for your help, THIS IS A GRAT SITE!!!
