I had Lasik performed on one eye 3 months ago. My pre-lasik eye was a -10, and my post lasik vision was a wonderful 20-30 the next day. However, 3 days after, I experienced numerous floaters and that horrifying "black curtain" indicating a retinal detachment. My opthalmologist told me I was 1 in 1000, and that the detachment must have been caused by the ring used to create the suction prior to the flap cut. He said that the ring increases the eye's pressure from a normal 10-14 to around 60. Are there any studies on detachment caused by Lasik??

There are multiple studies of retinal detachments (RD) after LASIK. Every study that I have read has said that the risk of a retinal detachment was no higher in patients who had undergone LASIK compared to other people of similar age amd level of myopia.
High myopia (-10 is very high) places a person at high risk for developing a spontaneous retinal detachment. The increased risk is due to thinning and/or stretching of the peripheral retina in patients with high myopia as compared to people with normal myopia.
The question has been - does LASIK increase the risk of retinal detachments. The studies I have read have compared the rate of retinal detachments, and have not found a higher rate in patients who had LASIK.
If you are interested in researching this topic, you can search medline. Medline is a free compilation of all research papers that are printed in scientific and medical journals. Here is a URL that has medline:

You can copy this and paste it into your browser - and you should then be able to search medline

I hope this helps
