I had Lasik surgery on April 3, 2003. Since then, I have experienced "problems with the surface cell healing" (as the MD explained). This problem recurs approximately every 2 weeks, resulting in a scratched cornea. I have been using Muro ointment at bedtime and Muro drops 3-4 times a day in addition to regular drops. I am currently experiencing another "scratched cornea" and I CANNOT afford, mentally or physically, to experience the pain and time out of work again. HOW COMMON IS THIS PROBLEM? WHAT CAUSES IT? WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT OPTIONS?
Please help....

It sounds like you have a condition called recurrent erosion. This is uncommon but can occur after LASIK. There are numerous types of treatments, which includes the medicines you are currently on. If you continue with recurrent erosions, your surgeon may consider stromal puncture or a slight touch of surface laser (called PTK). Other medical options include agressive lubrication with lubricating gels and ointments at bedtime, a humidifier, etc.
I hope this helps

Is this type of problem more common with certain type of lasers? (The Bausch & Lomb was used on me.)
Does one of the options you listed usually work OR
Have you seen patients that continued to have this problem for years after the surgery?

The laser does not make a difference but the instrument that makes the flap can make a difference. In most cases, the measures that Dr. Trattler mentioned will resolve the problem.
