I had a detached retina on one eye, had immediate surgery to correct with scleral buckel, had laser and cryotherapy on both eyes all 5 yrs ago. I am extremely near-sighted. My retinal specialist suggested possible lasik. I would be happy at this point to just see better and still wear glasses or contacts. They can't seem to correct my vision any better with glasses right now. Can I still be a candidate for lasik and what are my chances. I am 51 and from Illinois.

We can not really tell you if you are a candidate without knowing more about your refraction and the state of your retina. How well can your vision be corrected with glasses or contacts? How stable is your retina now. I imagine if your retinal surgeon has suggested lasik he must be comfortable with your situation now. Does he have someone in mind for you to see?
