I am 23 and 3mo post LASIK, and recently I heard two terrible news and make me frightened, depressed and nervious. I have got one friend who did LASIK 2 years ago and when she had her baby birth, what happened was she got retina detachment, does it because of LASIK or because she was quite weak and lack of Vitamin A, I have read some article and know Vitamin A is very important for retina. The second thing is I have got another friend and 1 mo post LASIK, she developed glaucoma!! I felt terrible about this as I was a high myopia and I am wondering is there anything I should notice in my daily life in order to prevent these?
Thanks!

Patients who are near-sighted are at risk for retinal detachments. LASIK does not increase or decrease this risk.
Glaucoma following laser eye surgery perhaps could be due to chronic use of a medication called a steroid. Typically stopping the steroid will allow the eye pressure to return to normal. But again the LASIK procedure does not increase or decrease the risk of glaucoma.
Please see your own doctor and get your followup exam, as monitoring your own situation is the best way to keep an eye out for risk factors for retinal detachments and glaucoma.

I had contact for 9yrs and feel well except the inconvience. However, I had an interview and the person there told me, in his dept, no body can continue wear contact because they need to look computer all day long and lots of over time work, so I thoughtinsdead of getting infection later on , I chose to do LASIK. To be honest, I feel a bit regret now as my vision wasn't as good as when I wore contact. I found the adjusting function of my eye is weaken, I felt uncomfortable if the light change. And I am worrying about the long term effect. I know it's silly to worry about these at this stage.

Neither is related to LASIK but retinal problems are more common in nearsighted eyes and glaucoma has to be followed carefully in post LASIK eyes as the pressure readings are lower because of the thinner flattened cornea after LASIK and the doctore taking care of the glaucoma should be made aware that the pt. had LASIK and it would help to know how nearsigthted the patient was pre LASIK

My eye pressure is around 8 mmghg now ,is that within a normal range? I was high myopia -11 pre LASIK. And one week post LASIK, it was 13 mmghg.
By the way, any recommend eye drops post LASIK as I use computer all day long. and my eye feels a little bit dry.
Thanks

the readings are lower because you had such a high correction but your pressure is really the same. we have to correct the readings after LASIK in a high correction because the cornea is thinner and flatter. Your real pressure is proabably still around 13 which is very normal
