Doctors, thank you for your previous postings regarding my complications.
I saw my surgeon yesterday, and the DLK has returned. I had only discontinued the steroids a month ago. Whatever was under my flap is apparently still there, even after an enhancement. I'm on Econopred now every two hours.
What's next? Do you think the flap needs to be lifted once again and cleaned out?
Thanks,
Daniel

It is impossible for us to know how to best treat your recurrence of DLK. DLK is an inflammatoy condition that is rare and the cause is still unknown. Treatment is generally with eye drops, although lifting the flap amy be needed. I have no idea why DLK may have returned. You should tlak with your doctor to see if there are any other options. I just can't comment whether lifting the flap would be helpful
Best of luck, and please let us know how things turn out

Thank you Dr. Trattler.
I would think that my options are:
1. Relift and try to remove whatever is causing the inflammation.
2. Remain on steroids forever to suppress the imflammatory response.
Can you think of any others?
I was off the steroids for a month, hoping for four months of healing so we could figure out what to do about my blurred vision by summer.

Although one option (lift the flap) is a consideration, I would doubt that you would have to be on life-time steroids. On the other hand, prolonged steroids can lead to cataract formation and glaucoma, so limiting steroid use once everything is under control is important (Remember that although cataracts and glaucoma can be caused by steroids, they can both be treated, and it is more important to follow your doctors instructions and try to treat your current problem
Best of luck
