Received LASIK surgery on September 29th. One day postop everything looked normal. Continued taking Prednisolone drop in each eye 4x per day and Ciloxan 4x per day.
One week later, Oct. 6th, DLK appears and Prednisolone drops were increased to every hour and Ciloxan stopped.
Oct 19th, DLK is not subsiding and two 20mg pills of Prddnisone 2x per day is prescribed with a gradual dosage decrease every 3 days. Prdnisolone drops every hour contiued with Timolol drops 2x per day.
Oct 21st DLK looks to be clearing. We're optimistic.
Oct 25th DLK has increased to 2plus level and Prednisone is increased to original early dosage. Prednisolone is replaced with Lotemax every hour. Also added to regimen is Alphagan drops 2x per day. This Friday my doctor will decide on irrigation. My doctor is perplexed and I'm cautiously nervous. I'm a hallmark card for a very good doctor and sure could use some advice. Thank you.
DLK can be a very difficult situation to treat. Steroids can sometimes not be enough, requiring a flap lift and irrigation. There is no way for me to tell whether a flap lifting is needed - but if you are unsure, you should consider a second opinion.
Best of luck

Dr. Trattler thank you for the response to my DLK posting and suggesting a 2nd opinion.
I saw another doctor today and was informed that I do not have DLK or any inflamation. He did say that I have cells (can't remember the name of the cells) traveling from an area on the edge of the flap towards the center in each eye. I asked about the doctor's prior experience with treating this problem and the doctor answered "lots". Emphasis was placed on monitoring the problem and the doctor decreased the dosage of Prednisolone drops from every hour to 4 x per day. Also decreased the Prednisone from 40mg per day to 30mg and a tapering off pattern. He checked the pressure of my eyes and stopped the Timolol. The doctor said to see him on Tuesday to determine if irrigation is necessary.
I am feeling more comfortable with Doc #2 because of the experience treating this problem many times and assuring me that irrigation is not a high risk procedure and I should be fine soon.
I don't won't to get in a ping pong match with doctors. My gut tells me to move on with doc #2 and explain my decision to doc #1 tomorrow. Of course this will be more money but the eyes mean to much.
My question is: Both docs see a problem and #1 says DLK and #2 says different. Obviously they both see a problem but doc #1 admitted feeling perplexed yesterday and doc #2 feels comfortable treating my problem. Should I get a 3rd opionion?
