I am 6 days post-op LASIK and at first had defects and now have Sands. My doctor graded it at a 2-3. My question is: could there be a coorelation between SOS and Systemic Lupus? I have lupus and adked my doctor at least 5 times if this makes any difference in me being a candidate for Lasik. But I have been at the doctors office every day since I had the surgery with the defects and then the SOS. I am having a hard time not being discouraged.

SOS - also called DLK - is a non-specific inflammatory condition of the cornea located at the interface between the flap and the underlying cornea. epithelial defects are known associations with DLK, but Lupus is not. I am not aware of any reports showing that there is an increased risk of DLK with Lupus - but there are many reports that have shown an association between a corneal abrasion (epithelial defect) and DLK.
Most patients with DLK do end up seeing well - so the key is of course to work closely with your doctor and have a positive attitde.

I hope this helps
