HELLO-I HAD THE LASIK PROCEDURE DONE ON 01-06-00.THE NEXT DAY THE DOCTOR SAID THAT THERE WAS INFLAMMATION IN BOTH EYES.ON O1-11-00 THE LEFT EYE WAS HEALING GOOD, BUT THE RIGHT EYE STILL HAD SEVERE INFLAMMATION.THE DOCTOR DECIDED TO DO AN "IRRIGATION PROCEDURE" IN MY RIGHT EYE.HE SAID HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT SCARRING OVER THE MIDDLE OF MY EYE.IT IS NOW CLOSE TO ONE MONTH LATER,AND THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT IN THE VISION IN MY RIGHT EYE.THE VISION IS STILL EXTREMELY BLURRED.THE DOCTOR SAID THAT THE BLURRED VISION IS DUE TO THE INFLAMMATION IN THE EYE.IS IT COMMON TO SEE INFLAMMATION LAST SO LONG AFTER THE PROCEDURE?COULD THIS LEAD TO A PERMANENT PROBLEM WITH MY VISION?SHOULD I BE CONCERNED,OR WILL MY VISION CLEAR UP AFTER THE INFLAMMATION GOES AWAY?PLEASE HELP.

Joseph,

I have been going through the same exact thing.

My doctor chose not to relift and irrigate, and the inflammation ate away some of my cornea and caused me to become farsighted. After 3 months of steroids, I went off them last month and the inflammation has returned.

I might be able to help with some of your questions. You can email me at

Joseph,

If you do send an email, it will go to my friend Elizabeth, since I don't have a computer right now and I use hers when I see her.

You may be describing DLK, which stands for diffuse lamellar keratitis. DLK is a situation in which inflammation develops under the flap after LASIK. We do not know the cause, although it can often be treated with anti-inflammatory medications.
As for prognosis - I do not have any idea for your eyes, because it would depend on how they look, etc.
I will be happy to answer any other questions
