As a result of my lasik treatment on February 29, 2000, I developed sands of the Sahara. Increased steroid treatment cleared this quickly, but when it healed, a small area of my cornea thinned. My surgeon says it is only about a 10 micron difference from the surrounding tissue, but this has been enough to blur my vision.
My surgeon says that if it does not correct itself, the only repair option would be correction with a scanning laser. This equipment is not due for FDA approval for 6 to 12 months. Are there any other options?
Since you just had your LASIK, you may need time for your eye to heal before you think about a retreatment.
I am not sure which scanning laser your doctor is talking about, or whether you mean a customized laser treatment.
I wish I could add more
Best of luck

I had lasik for both eyes 12/2000. Was -9.50 and astigmatism in both eyes. One month later vision started to deteriorate. Appeared to be looking through lace or wax paper depending on light situation. Dr. mentioned Sands of Sahara and gave prednisone drops. Vision became worse and Dr. said scar tissue was forming because I healed too quickly. Said wasn't DLK but haze from scar tissue. Have returned every month and tried different drops with no success. This week returned again and orbscan topography indicates posterior float of over 900. Now in addition to scar haze, Dr said I have ectasia. Dr. says he has no solution. Inoperable because of healing response. Irreversable because no drops have worked. And haze apparently is still progressing.
I can no longer drive, read or see TV. Have fallen off sidewalk curbs and walked into posts.
Vision varies fromheavy wax paper to dense lace depending on lighting. What to do ??
