I had flap lift and epithelial scraping 10 days after initial LASIK [for HYPEROPIA]. MD says striae now are minimal[micro] and well out of visual field. Vision seems to be improving, but ever so slowly in this eye. WHEN might I expect final improvement?? Thanks--- E.E. DC

It may take several weeks for final improvement. Make sure you stay in close contact with your physician.

Thanks--Now advised of a small micro-stria in visual field. MD thinks this will not be an issue. Hope for reply from Dr Friedman or others........

We have a detailed article on striae at http://www.complicatedeyes.org/striae.htm that may be helpful in your understanding of your treatment.
Micro-striae tend to require a significant amount of time to fully resolve. This may be as little as a few weeks, or a couple of months. The flap lift and stretch may have helped, but what will help most is healing.
This is where the patient needs patience.

Epithelial ingrowth and striae formation are the two most common complications of LASIK enhancements, occurring about 3% of the time. The epi ingrowth occurs because lifting the flap can abrade or rough up the perimeter of the flap, allowing epithelial cells to migrate under it. And the striae occur because any time the flap is lifted and manipulated there is a risk it will not quite re-seat perfectly. Your doctor did the right thing in promptly addressing these two issues. Your vision may take a few weeks to settle down, so you can see just where you're at. Also, close medical follow up is important because epi ingrowth can at times re-occur, and any remaining striae need to be carefully checked to see whether or not they are affecting your vision. If they are not, they probably can be left in place. If they are, the flap should be floated again and more aggressive measures taken to get rid of them. It sounds to me like you'll be fine with proper follow up.
