I am considering lasik, I am 33 and pretty myopic.
I attended a seminar at the Kansas City Eye Clinic by doctor Michael E. Hettinger.
my eyes are: Right: -10.50 +0.50 x90
Left: -11.00 +0.50 x90
I was told that with higher degrees of myopia the more of a chance that an enhancement would need to be performed, about 20% possibilty in my case.
Dr.Hettinger says it pays to be conservative on the procedure so as not to go too far.
Dr. Hettinger seems to be very knowledgable does anyone have any information on him?

I have known Mike Hettinger MD for many years, from when he was a cornea fellow at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He is a superb physician.

are the risks higher for patients with higher corrections? are the chances for a good result lower than normal? are the chances higher that I may still need glasses after lasik than someone with a lower correction factor?
I am a motorcycle rider and always wear a helmet with eye protection. I do not like contacts because they seemed to dry out quickly and become uncomfortable. will there be any similar dry eye problems post lasik?
thank you for the information it is very helpful to those of us trying to make a choice.
right eye is -10.50 +0.50 x 90
left eye is -11.00 +0.50 x90

1. The risk that someone will need an enhancement (retreatment) after LASIK is generally higher in patients with higher myopia
2. Dry eyes are a common problem for the first few months after LASIK, and you should carefully have your eyes examined for fryness prior to having surgery
3. The complications in general are low with LASIK. But with higher treatments, the person is more likely to have problems such as glare or halos (fortunately these resolve in most (but not all) patients.
Best of luck, and let us know how things turn out
