Hi
Had Lasik a week ago, had -7.00 in both eyes. My vision is blurry, I cant even see the food on my plate with detail! I had presbyscia and was told would need reading glasses, but not to see things that are a few feet away. This is depressing me,do I have any hope of it getting better?

The prognosis for your vision getting better depends upon your current prescription.

You had a rather high refractive error. It is common for surgeons to slightly overcorrect a patient with high refractive error to accommodate expected regression. You may have gone from high myopia (nearsighted, shortsighted) vision into hyperopia (farsighted, longsighted) vision. The combination of presbyopia and hyperopia can provide poor vision quality at all distances. If this is the situation, as you regress the hyperopia will resolve and the vision will become clearer. Read http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-overcorrection.htm

If you have excellent distance vision but poor near vision, the problem may all be simple presbyopia. You stated that you were already presbyopic before surgery. You had some advantage being myopic before surgery. Now that you have had surgery any advantage you had is gone. I call this Sudden Presbyopia and we have an article about this at http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/sudden_presbyopia.htm

You need to talk with your doctor. It is possible that your near vision will improve, but without a comprehensive examination from a competent doctor it is impossible to know the probability of improvement.

You are a long way from being healed from surgery. There is no reason to come to any conclusions about your final outcome at this time.

thanks for responding. I feel much better now, I mean I could deal with the idea of using glasses to read or use the computer, but I feel now I have to wear them all the time because my vision is better with them. Dr. prescribed +1.75. Will wait for the healing process to be more advanced as with the dry eyes and using the systane, I feel my vision gets blurry...

ASk your doctor about Restasis, which may help your dry eye symptoms recover more quickly.
Also - be careful to use only Preservative-free drops. I have found that preserved Systane can be a little irritating, so consider switching to preservative-free tears (based on your own doctors recommendation).

Best of luck

Hi
Visited Dr. today. My current evaluation was 20/20 right eye and 20/25 left. He says everything is going well and that I should wait at least a month, that hopefully my vision should get better.
Thanks for all your help, very good forum.

I had -7.5 and presbiopia. I had the same issues after LASIK. It took about 6 weeks to really feel comfortable with my midrange vision and reading even with reading glasses. ^ weeks wasn't even the end of the improvement process but from what I remember I had constant major improvements up to that point. I'm just over 6 months now and stabalized. Just keep hydrating and wait. It got a lot better for me.

I'm not a DR and I don't play one on the internet. I posted this from personal experience from a very similar situation.

later this month because I've dropped to 20/30 and I wear +1.5s all the time now but even that beats being helpless without glasses the way I was before LASIK.

Thats presbyopia for you. You may not have been aware of it because your myopia was masking it and you saw fine from near without glasses or with bifocals. Lasik cant correct presbyopia so youll either need to choose distance or near. Those who choose near either get monovision or undercorrection and avoid reading glasses and instead wear distance glasses for driving and movies.
