I've just been to several ophthalmologists to confirm that a cloudy spot above my pupil ( about 1 mm x 2 mm) is epithelial ingrowth. I had an enhancement in this eye 4 1/2 years ago and my distance vision was plano. I recently noticed this spot (about 3 weeks ago) and then did notice that my vision had decreased (ghosting or distortion - worse in the morning, and very noticeable at night when looking at lights and trying to read signs, etc. I had mono vision and previously, this eye tuned in quite nicely for distance. When I was tested yesterday, they said I was seeing 20/20, but everything is a bit distorted. I'm in the process of deciding on a doctor. I'm in Virginia and I saw Dr. Holzman and am waiting to hear from him on pricing (my original doctor moved to another state). Do you have any other recommendations? I did check with my insurance (Aetna/Open Access Federal Gov) and they said this would likely be covered under medical, depending on the code the doctor used, so this is also a consideration, since I understand once you start trying to treat ingrowth, there could be the need for multiple treatments. Obviously, my main priority would be to have a good doctor. Do you have any recommendations on doctors who have had a lot of success in treating this? Northern Virginia, DC, possibly Maryland are within my traveling range. Thanks.

It is unusual to develope ingrowth this late. Have you had any recent trauma? When did you first notice the change in vision? Dr Holzman is an experienced surgeon. If you would like another opininon, my office is in DC near Van Ness UDC metro stop. The office phone number is .

Thanks for the response. Yes, I have been told it is unusual at this late date to have a problem with ingrowth, but I did get another opinion from Dr. Jay Lustbader and he agrees that this is what it is. As far as trauma, I did remove an eyelash with a q-tip and when I did that, I recall it hurting a bit, so I used some eyedrops and it seems that maybe a couple of weeks later I noticed the opaque area on my cornea. Perhaps that was enough disturbance to cause some ingrowth to occur? I had noticed that my reading glasses were no longer focusing my vision enough in that eye for several months, but hadn't really noticed distance visual problems until just recently. I especially notice distortion at night when looking at lights. I'm still waiting to hear back from Dr. Holzman and will need to get this treated within the next few weeks, according to the opinions that I have obtained.
