"Poor Results/monovision/enhancement?" Posted by Kent - Littleton, CO on 14:24:11 5/30/2000

Im going in for a checkup tomorrow. I had Mono correction Lasik on 4/28. Both eyes are still about 20/100 each. Im not sure of my exact original prescription- I know I had a lot of asigmatism. My questions are these: Did they make a mistake on my original procedure? Will they give me some type of correction now (glasses or contacts)? Are my eyes "stable"? If they suggest an enhancement will they leave my left eye alone? Should I scrap the monovision and shoot for distance in both eyes? Are there greater risks for the enhancement procedures (worsening halos, ghosting etc)?
thanks in advance-
Kent

I had my lasik on May 3, 2000. I too, was aiming for monovision: 20/70 in left eye and 20/20 in right.
The results after 1 month: 20/150 in left eye and 20/70 in right. Very little change throughout the month. I was very near-sighted prior to the operation and was told that 10-20 Percent of lasik operations end up with similar results due to various differences with patients, including hydration of the eye and the way different eyes heal. I was told that an enhancement procedure was actually slightly safer than the first operation since they do not HAVE
to make a new flap; they can just re-open it.
I was also wondering whether or not to just go for 20/20 in both eyes, but after reading about the positive experiences of most of those who have monovision, I still think it is what I am going to strive for.
Also, I am curious who your doctor was. My doctor is William L. Hines in Denver.
Hope to hear from you and good luck!

Hi Rob-
My doctor is also Hines- I know he is well respected and a good doctor- I'm just disappointed in the results so far- I just dont want to make any hasty decisions from this point on-
Im hoping one of these docs will reply to my original questions-
Before getting overly worried, you should try to find out why your vision is not clear. Is it because you are over or under corrected, or because you have dry eyes? Your doctor should perform a complete exam to determine the cause of your blurry vision. If it is just being over or undrecorrected, then if the vision doesn't clear up on its own, you can consider an enhancement. In the mean time, if your vision does improve with glasses, you should consider getting a pair so that you can function for the time being
Best of luck
