My background- Im 45 years old- I had the orig LASIK surgery around 5/1/2000 for monovision- I basically ended with 20/100 in both eyes after three months- not a good result. They gave me "mono contacts" temporarily at about 1 month post-op. I did exp ghosting/haloes/night problems early, but they all subsided at about 3 months. I seemed to adjust to the mono contacts but not perfectly- I did receive an enhancement on 8/5/2000 which produced 20/20 vision the next day in my dominant right eye- I currently have the same haloes/night problems as I had before in both eyes, but the ghosting is now ONLY in my left eye- My last visit to the doctor was at 3 weeks post-enhance- I was still 20/20 in the dom eye but I couldn't read close with my left eye. Now at 7 weeks post-enhance, my vision seems worse overall and my right eye seems to be doing all the work of both near and far distance- My questions are these- Am I regressing, or is the ghosting in the left eye causing all the problems now as far as adjusting to the mono? When the glare and halos go away (hopefully it will like before-) will this solve all my monovision problems? If I do a third enhancement, (which I dont want to if I can avoid it) should I scrap the mono and just wear readers when the day comes, or try to correct the left eye if its undercorrected or astigmatic?
I dont go in for my next followup until Nov 4, Im considering going in earlier now- Thanks in advance for your advice-
Kent

it is difficult to answr, especially since I do not know your original refraction and age. In general, people with higher levels of myopia are at higher risks of regressing. Regression can occur after an enhancement as well.
To find out if you are regressing - your doctor will measure your refraction and compare it to the refractions shortly the last enhancement.
it is too early to comment about your "third enhancement". when the time comes - consider asking again here - and include your refractions for that eye (preop, before enhancement 1, before enhancement 1, and the current refraction), plus include your age.
Best of luck

Thanks Dr. Trattler:
Here are my specs.
Age: 45
Prescription before first surgery (April 28, 2000)
OD -9.50 +3.00 x090 dominant eye
OS -8.50 +3.25 x075
Prescription before enhancment (Aug 5, 2000)
OD -2.50 +0.75 x004
OS -2.75 +1.00 x006
Prescription now (Oct 4, 2000)
OD -1.00 +0.25 thickness now: 396
OS -1.75 +0.50 thickness now: 490
Fully dilated pupil size: 9mm
Laser type: NIDEK
Anyway, as you can see I came a very long way-
The results of my appt yesterday with my doctor:
I'm seeing about 20/40 overall right now and was at 20/20 on my last visit around Sept 1. The monovison was working early on after the enhance but now it seems that both eyes are trying to work together rather than independently. Anyway as a result of the appt, Dr. Cushing gave me another contact to correct my right eye. Today, I can see really well and the mono is working again with the lens.
Dr. Cushing said they would not probably not suggest another enhancement on account of my cornea thickness in my right eye(needs to be 400+). He said that could change in another month. I go in on Nov 3rd.
The way I look at it now is that I would be perfectly happy with the way it is if it would just not regress any further- It might be great if I could do another enhancement, but I may just leave it anyway and not risk it. The contacts don't bother me at all. I was never able to wear contacts before the surgery-
Do you think I should consider another enhancement or just leave things as they are and wear contacts? Thanks in advance for you opinion.

It sounds like you have improved dramatically from your procedure. Although you vision isn't perfect, you can still do many things with glasses or contacts that you couldn't do before.
For any procedure, you must weigh the rissk versus the benefits. The risks for you may be higher with each enhancement due to your corneal thickness. So weigh everything carefully before considering a touch up.

Thanks for your advice, Dr. Trattler- One other question I have is that if they don't suggest an enhancement on my right eye due to cornea thickness, does it make sense to try to enhance the other (non-dominant) eye for distance and leave the other alone? Right now I'm wearing a contact on my right (dominant) eye only and the mono seems to be working well-
