(please excuse the repost)

Does it make any sense to try to enhance the (non-dominant) eye for distance and leave the other alone thereby giving me a chance to be totally glasses/contacts free?

Right now I'm wearing a soft contact on my right (dominant) eye only and the monovision seems to be working really well-

I go in to see my doctor again on November 3. He probably won't suggest an enhancement on my right eye due to cornea thickness.

Prescription now (as of Oct 4):

OD -1.00 +0.25 cornea thickness: 396 dominant eye

OS -1.75 +0.50 cornea thickness: 490

Should I just leave it alone and live with contacts? Or should I try a soft lens on the left for distance and see if that will work?

Thanks in advance-

Kent

Although most people prefer having their dominant eye set for distance, this is not universal. Since your cornea in the right is so thin, you can try a contact lens on your left eye only to see if this works for you. Everyone is individual - so see what works best

I am trying monovision with a contact lens in my non-dominant eye to decide whether to go ahead with an enhancement. So far I like my distance vision but my close up vision isn't great. This is only the second day I've been wearing the lens. Could my close up vision improve? I would love to hear from anyone with any knowledge about enhancing the non-dominant eye. I also have a thin cornea in the dominant eye.

What is your previous and current prescription? Please post it if you can.

I've found that monovision works best for me with the dominant eye for distance. My eyes seem better balanced (-.75 apart vs -1.75 apart) with the reverse mono, but I think that is due to the fact of no astigmatism present in my right eye. My left eye still has some irregular astig that seems to interfere with my close vision with that eye. That could be your problem with your right eye, Meg.

I am currently going to try rigid lenses to see if I can achieve better vision with my left eye and may even scrub the monovision.

My feeling is now to try to acheive the best vision possible with contacts. If better technology comes, (like corneaplasty for instance) I may give it a try.

I am now 1 year post op and 9 mos post-enhance. My eyes have healed well and are stable (I am the same prescrip since Oct 2000) but it's taken this long to do so. I've done plenty of research on this Meg. Please be careful and patient before you rush into an enhancement with thin corneas and especially give your eyes a long chance to heal and stabilize.

The nice thing is that you can test things out with contacts. Your doctor can vary the strength of the reading contact lens to help you find a comfortable spot.
Please remember that there are risks with enhancements. It is possible to get an infection or have other problems - so you need to understand these risks before considering additional surgery. As well, it is possible that you could be over or under corrected, and require an additional enhancement.
I hope this information is helpful.

Best of luck
