i am just about ready to have lasik done. i am 46 and my presbyopia is starting to drive me crazy. i am thinking of trying monovision with contacts, as i know i can read fairly well with a +1.00 reading glass. my current prescription is -4.75 in both eyes for contacts. -5.25 for far vision which makes it almost impossible to read up close. is this a good idea? i don't know when i will be able to have the lasik procedure performed but in the meantime i need relief...
There's nothing to lose by trying monovision in contacts. Best case scenario, it works and you can have LASIK or wear monovision contacts. Worst case scenario, you use reading glasses and opt to not have monovision. Contacts are an excellent simulation of monovision with LASIK. In my experience, only about 50% of motivated individuals adapt well to monovision. So hope for the best.
