I am scheduled for my pre-op next month with my surgery 24 hours following. This doesn't give me much time to decide about monovision. I am 57 years old and have worn no line bifocals for 17 years. They tell me I am a perfect candidate for expecting a complete correction but did not mention monovision. I just expected to have to wear reading glasses, but now see that there may be another possibility. What percentage of folks who have monovision done are very happy with it and what percentage hate it? I tried monovision contacts years ago and hated it but was also having trouble wearing contacts period so I'm not sure that was a good test. This will be done in a brand new clinic in my area so don't have past results to go by. The company is LASIK VISION of
Canada. Does anyone have any experience with this company? They have quite a few clinics in the US
also.

Surgery is permanent. I have seen several
patients who went to Canada and had minimal pre op
counseling on their options and were not happy
with the results. You should understand well in
advance what your options are and not do it in 24
hours. You may not tolerate total monovision but
might appreciate slight or modified monovision.
It is no bargain if you get poor advice. Get
yourself a surgeon near home who can discuss these
things with you before you have surgery.

Can you still read without glasses? I'm almost 56 & only had my right eye done because my close-up vision (especially with my left eye) is excellent. I'm getting along great with it--I see 20-20 (did have a problem with a central island which caused ghosting, but had an enhancement about a month ago & it's much better). Close up I can see teeny print. Neither eye interfers with close or far away vision & I've not experienced loss of perception. If you can't read without glasses, you'd have to have one of your eyes corrected for close-up & I'm not sure how that would work. But I love being able to see up close & far away without glasses.
