I ALWAYS do everything right..up until now!! I had my 3 children ..all planned to a "T"...I waited post breastfeeding...to have my LASIK done. Here's the story: August 2001 Bilateral LASIK..with 20/30 vision both eyes 1 day post op....1 week post op....20/100..yes I was the freak of the office! Dec 2001 had both eyes enhanced...about 20/30..left eye a bit better than right. Nov 2002 decide to go for my 1 year. They decide to put punctal plugs in due to the time of the year..I, with the plugs gained a line each eye...Left eye 20/25-30 Right eye 20/40. Decide to enhance the Right eye again 12/03..plenty of corneal thickness. I'm done..not doing any more after this i say to myself!

Well, now I find out I'm pregnant...I AM SUCH A FOOL!!! I PLAN EVERYTHING!! Oy! So embarrassed..but will obviously tell my MD. My vision was 20/400 before all of this began so I'm content just not being so bound to glasses.

What should I expect..aside from the child..any complications..regression..shoot I'm used to that! I aslo wonder if my recent diagnosis of rosacea could play a part..I'm just beginning my research on Ocular rosacea..wondering if that was the reason for the huge regression from the very beginning..I just wasn'r diagnosed yet!
Looking forward to your reply/ies!

Congratulations on your new baby. Quit beating up on yourself. While we want to avoid pregnancy and breast feeding because of the incresed risk of unpredictable results, it does not mean that you will absolutely have problems. Take care of yourself, enjoy your pregnancy and new baby. It will do no good to worry or obsess about what might happen. I don't want others to be cavalier about this topic but you will most likely be fine.

Dr. Friedman is absolutely correct. You have little to worry about. It is common for women who are pregnant and lactating to have fluctuations in vision, so just don’t have eye surgery based upon vision during your pregnancy. I have seen no studies that indicate you are at a higher risk of any refractive surgery related problems due to being pregnant after having LASIK.

Ocular rosacea can leave the eyes feeling irritated and "gritty". Patients may experience redness, tearing or crusting on the lashes. Many mistakenly think they have allergies. Use of prescription steroid based eye drops will usually help improve this condition. Of course, you will want to be careful with steroids during pregnancy. Discuss this with both your OB/Gyn and ophthalmologist.

Rosacea is more common in individuals with fair complexions, with women affected at a higher rate than men. Patients who are from ethnic backgrounds such as Great Britain (including Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Germany and Scandinavia tend to be more likely candidates, although anyone can develop rosacea. This disease typically develops anywhere between the ages of 30-50. What causes rosacea is still unknown. You may want to visit http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/rosacea.htm for more information.

Life does not always go according to our plans. How utterly boring if it did.

Rosacea and dry eyes can potentially place a person at a higher risk of regression. Of course - people can have regression without risk factors - and the risk of regression increases with higher amounts of refractive error.
As for pregnancy - 3 of my employees had laser surgery with me, and despite my warnings, all were pregnant within a month of their surgery.
Fortunately - everyone did great!!! No regression for any of them.

I hope this helps

It appears that we have discovered yet another complication hidden by a vast conspiracy of the refractive surgery industry! Just kidding folks. Just kidding.
