I had Lasik 2 weeks ago, a friend has also had it done. Her dr. recommended not to get pregnant for 12 months following Lasik.....my dr never mentioned this and I failed to ask....We want to have one more child before too long....What is a recommended timeframe and why????
Thanks.....Tricia
You ask an excellent question. It is my understanding that women who are on birth control pills or who become pregnant shortly after their LASIK procedure aremorelikely to experience an episode of regression. REgression means that the amount of myopia will increase. Sometimes this can lead to the need for an enhancement procedure. You should talk with your doctor wbout his/her time frame - some doctors recommend 6 months, while others may recommend more orless time after LASIK.
I hope this is helpful

tricia,
i recommed that my patients wait at least three months after surgery to get pregnant.
during pregnancy, your body goes through so many hormonal changes that it can affect the healing of the eye, possibly causing a loss of some of the effect (regression).
i also ask new mothers to wait until they have stopped breast feeding for at least three months before undergoing lasik.
