MY EYES ARE EXTREMEMLY MYOPIC, -13 IN GLASSES AND -11 IN COTACTS. I HAVE ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH MACULAR HOLES IN BOTH EYES. THE FIRST ONE I GOT WAS IN MY RIGHT EYE AND HAS CLEARED UP, NOW I HAVE EVIDENCE OF IT IN MY LEFT EYE. I WONDERED IF I WOULD BE A CANDIDATE FOR LASIK WITH MY SEVERE NEARSIGHTEDNESS AND THE MACULAR HOLES. I HAD SEEN A DOCTOR IN MY HOME TOWN WHO WAS HESITANT TO PERFOM THE PROCEDURE, AND THAT WAS BEFORE I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE MACULAR HOLES. THEY HAD SUGGESTED LENS IMPLANTS, WOULD THAT STILL BE A POSSILBILITY? PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS. ROBIN

your eyes are not normal healthy eyes. preserve the vison you have, and wait on refractive surgery until you are desperate to have something done. just my opinion...

LASIK is an elective procedure. There is still much to learn about macular holes. It is believed that there is vitrous traction on the retina, which causes the holes to occur and enlarge. I would be hesitant to operate on eyes with impending macular holes or macular holes that have closed, because any changes could lead to opening of the macular holes. The presence of a macular hole will reduce one's best-corrected vision to 20/200 or worse.
So with LASIK, you may reduce the degree of myopia, but you may not have adequate vision with which to function.
If it were my eyes or my family member's eyes, I would recommend against it.

I had macular hole surgery three years ago. Hole did not close and the retina detached. Second surgery repaired detachment and the lens was removed to accommodate the procedure. Peripheral vision was improved with a +13.50 contact but using a contact is very difficult. It has been recommended that I undergo lasik for a 60% correction and that remaining correction be accomplished with eyeglass lens. This deals only with peripheral vision.
Does this seem like a viable approach?

some doctor in outer mongolia, togo or kosovo may deem you to be a good candidate.
but i seriously doubt any good doctor on this or any other board, or any eye professional with even a cursory understanding of your problems, would recommend that you get LASIK, or for that matter any RS.
you fit the profile of a PERFECT NON-CANDIDATE.
wait.
