I am considering having LASIK surgery done, but I have a history of macular degeneration in my family. I have no signs of having it and am otherwise a good candidate for LASIK. I was wondering if this history would have any affect on me having the surgery, now or in the future. Thanks for your response.

lasik has no effect whatsoever on your tendency towards macular degeneration, and should not interfere with your doctor's abilities to diagnosis the disease should you develop it at some time in the future. just remember to get yearly eye exams with dilation to check for the disease.

There has been no relationship between LASIK and glaucoma.
