Dr. Manche from UCSF has agreed to be a panel member on this bulletin board. You can ask him any questions by linking to his email through the doctor directory.
Best of luck

I found out that Dr. Manche only works in the south Bay area at Stanford. Do you know anything about Dr. MacLeod, Hwang, or Abbott at UCSF?

Dr. Abbott is the director of cornea/refractive surgery at ucsf and Dr. Manche holds the equivalent position at stanford. Both have excellent reputations and experience.

I know of several people that have gone to Dr. McLeod at UCSF and have been very happy with their results. It is my understanding that he only does 1 eye at a time. I went to Dr. Manche and was thrilled with my outcome and would highly recommend him. In my opinion, he is worth the extra drive to Palo Alto.

Hi! I didn't go to either Hwang (at UCSF) or Stephen Turner (in San Leandro), but did talk to lots of people who went to them when I was researching my surgeon. I did not go to Hwang only because UCSF at that time would not perform bilateral LASIK. They were going to change their protocols, so perhaps they will now. I did not go to Stephen Turner because most of his patients, while pleased with his technical work, said he has a personality "like a piece of cardboard," and I wanted someone I could feel comfortable asking questions with. But both Hwang and Turner are supposed to be excellent. Good luck!
Susan Worth
P.S. My surgeon was a young guy named Chris Kim, offices in Petaluma and Santa Rosa. I -7.25 myopia in both eyes, with about -3.0 astigmatism and now I can see perfectly with no glasses or contacts!
